Sound & Motion: Motion Capture Activity

I dislike over-thinking decisions like this, so for now I'm going to go ahead and post up some thoughts! I've been playing with the idea of "flying a kite" as my activity. The only problem being that I hate the idea of leaving it up to chance, since kite flying is more often than not based on the weather conditions. I think there's a nice contrast of macro/micro though. The action of running, letting out the line/reeling it back in, small tugs, the pull of the kite as it's being carried away. I suppose there's also the crash and burn, or infamous kite-eating tree to consider. I also looked to see if anything in terms of media would be available, and there seems to be some form of a  documentary. Not sure about movies yet.

It's been kind of difficult thinking of activities where I can observe other people as well. One of my first choices, and something that I think will be a little more accessible for me is playing the violin. (Though I'll be honest and say I haven't played since high school, which is a shame.) The problem here is that I don't know many people around here who play for me to observe. However, because of the nature of the violin, there's a large amount of steps, techniques and bow strokes (rosining the bow hair, turning pegs to tune, bowing, plucking, vibrato, etc.) to be taken into account as far as action goes. There are also plenty of possible live performances to attend, as well as movies.

Well, I figured that doing some thinking out loud might help before going forward with any decisions. Which to pick~!

kite flying would be easy enough to convince a friend to do, so you could observe it. that documentary looks interesting. could you get a hold of it to watch?

the violin idea seems promising, but may be hard to observe if you don't know others who play.
