The cropping of the images is dynamic and the colors vibrant. All these components together say "haircut" or "salon" in a positive or fun light. I wouldn't say this haircut event/happening is juvenile but it is not pretentious; youthful would be a good word for it. The use of photography is treated the same throughout each component (some blurring, attention to color, etc), so there's not jarring differences from image to image. There's little abstraction, so I understood right away what these things were and in what setting they would appear. Some previous knowledge on my part is necessary to avoid confusion: the blue background is the liquid which the combs float in, the spray bottle is not full of Windex or other cleaner, it is another barber tool -for dampening dry hair). There is little noise, all elements seem purposeful.
I think the approach of juxtaposition was pretty straightforward, and Morgan received and understood it just as it was intended. By putting seemingly 'scary' scissors next to tools we associate with a barber shop, the scissors were given the purpose of cutting hair. When trying to create a positive look on scissors, I thought of the elements that originally made Morgan's scissors negative: darkness, lack of color, the level of abstraction due to angle, blur and the lack of surface. By brightening up the image and juxtaposing the scissors next to colorful pictures that were also speaking the same photographic language as hers, the scissors are viewed in context of those photographs, and therefore much less frightening.
