Placard Progress

After both crits on Wednesday, I decided to move forward with the climate-based placard set, which for me was definitely the most experimental and more interesting image-making process. Moving forward, I've mostly been playing with scale and positioning. I like the way these look large against the different textures, but as far as legibility goes I'm not so sure. (It's also a bit strange, as the clogs and sandals are rather wide where the boot is tall). There are also issues with the pictures showing through my icons-- I tried to resolve the problem by adding a very subtle layer of white transparency behind the icon.

Here are a few others, playing with smaller icons, slight cropping and possible overlap with type and icon. I think another good direction to try would be to mix the size of the icons up and see how a nice rhythm could be created through the placards, as opposed to sticking to one size. With a similar typographic treatment, I think they could still work as a set.

The large scale icons are the best for legibility and impact.

Try color.
